Payroll

What do I need to pay my employees?

Short answer

You need an EIN, an employer account with North Carolina, a W-4 and an I-9 for each employee, and you must withhold and deposit payroll taxes on time.

What you need

  • An EIN from the IRS
  • North Carolina employer registration (withholding and unemployment)
  • Form W-4 and Form I-9 for every employee
  • A system to withhold and deposit payroll taxes on time

Form 941 is filed every quarter, no later than the last day of the following month. W-2s go to employees by January 31. Late payroll taxes carry heavy penalties.

Form 941

W-2
